Student life at Tremlett

PictureTremlett students in the 1920s participate in the first known guerilla knitting group.
Students at Tremlett live on campus in the school's historic cottages. There are no cars or gas-powered vehicles on the island. Transportation is handled by foot, bicycle, and horseback. There are frequent educational field trips to the mainland and a once-a-month open day for students to visit the nearest seaport town of Fearns.

Though Tremlett is located off the mainland, the college often hosts visiting scholars who come for special lectures, or to engage in research with the library's unique archival collections. The island setting is conducive to focusing on educational activities.

Students look forward to the fall apple harvests on the Tremlett estate, the annual spring wildflower celebration, which brings many visitors from the mainland, and special summer courses for academics who wish to continue their studies through the warmer months.

Students are encouraged to participate in clubs and community organizations, such as the Tremlett Tellers (the drama group) or one of the school's storied gardening clubs.

We have many active groups, most notably the original chapter of the Hardy Women's Society, a worldwide organization founded by three Tremlett students in 1898.

The college features a world-renowned library, while the island offers many opportunities for hiking and outdoor recreation, within designated areas. The Tremlett College campus was rated "Most Beautiful College in the World" in 1996 by the Association of Educational Botanists.
