The Hardy Women's Society & Tremlett College

Picture
The HWS founders attend a botany lecture in 1899.
The Hardy Women's Society will always be inextricably linked with Tremlett College. The society was founded by three young students in 1898: Ada Gentry Adair, Georgia Campbell, and Bunny Sutton.

From humble beginnings, the society has grown to encompass chapters all over the world, as well as an active Men's Auxiliary organization.

Last school year, 232 of Tremlett's 260 students were participating members of the HWS. We are proud of our long history with the society. The college maintains a special archive in the library dedicated to historical documents pertaining to the society. Visiting scholars are welcome to request these materials for special research projects.
